Sharon Lupton Buck is a native of eastern North Carolina, who grew up with a great love for all animals, but horses and dogs are her passion.

Sharon began her career as an artist in the dog show world. During that time, she worked as a freelance artist/cartoonist for Hoflin Publishing in Colorado. Sharon has had many of her pieces published on front covers and inside the multiple publications that Hoflin offered.

Sharon’s passion for sketching and painting dogs eventually spread to horses. Her focus became the Chincoteague ponies of Chincoteague Island, Virginia a few years later. A charcoal sketch of the record price breaking mare, CLG Surfer’s Blue Moon received a Special Judges Award from the Printing Industry of the Carolinas.

A 16x20 acrylic painting titled “Unexpected Visitor” was Best in Show at the 2021 Horses Got Talent art show sponsored by Southeast Hoofbeats magazine. In the same show, another 16x20 acrylic painting titled “Ace’s Miss Raven Rhapsody” earned 3rd place honors.

Most recently, “Unexpected Visitor” won the top prize, called a Winnie award for illustrations at the prestigious 2022 Equus Film and Arts Festival held in San Francisco. In addition, Sharon’s design “Love Chair Ponies of Chincoteague” went runner-up in the same category. Two of Sharon’s charcoal sketches, “Bayberry of Assateague” and “Bird, the Marsh Tacky Stallion” received Honorable Mentions. In 2023, Sharon’s acrylic painting “All is Calm, All is Bright” won the illustration category at the Equus Film and Arts Festival in Albuquerque.

Today Sharon has branched out a bit to include the rare Marsh Tacky Horses, the wild horses of Outer Banks, and the Assateague Horses of Maryland.

She currently resides in Chincoteague, Virginia with her Corgi, Sassy and her Beagle mix, Chunk. Ironically, Sharon is currently the innkeeper at Miss Molly’s Inn, where Marguerite Henry penned her most famous book, Misty of Chincoteague.
